Some Kidney Diet Info

On a kidney diet, you have to control your fluid intake, so that you don't experince too much weight gain and swelling.  Your heart may have to work harder; your blood pressure can also be affected.  Avoiding salty foods is one way to reduce thirst; another way is to drink from smaller vessels.  Jello and ice cream are fluids at room temperature, which means they contain water.  These must be consumed in moderation.  Grapes, melons, and celery are examples of vegetables and fruits that contain lots of water, so you need to keep that in mind also.  Sucking on ice cubes and fruit juices that have been frozen in an ice cube tray is another way to avoid thirst but still not get too many fluids.  (http://kidney.niddk.nih.gov/Kudiseases/pubs/eatright/)
